Research: 3 Minutes Wonder

Three minutes wonder is a short documentary media text style,usually last about 3-5 minutes. Three minutes wonder shows on Chanel 4 in the weekday, it's offers the new director and assistant producer to show their work to the large amount of audiences. This is also to take a first step to be in competitive UK film industry. Chanel 4 offers the new directer and assistant producer £4000 to make their short film which broadcast at 7.55pm every weekday, this is to give the new talent a chance to make their development. Three minutes wonder film usually show the current issue in the society which normally un-notice to the public, either ways the documentary can expose our mind to see and think about the society depending on the technique and type of documentary used in the film.

Beneath My Skin - Tattoo Mini Doc - 3 Minute wonder

 This is one of the documentaries film that I chose, this is about a tattooist who is a girl being interview about tattoo and her life. How she become tattooist when most people in the society think girls with tattoo are bad and express themselves in the negative way. How ever this documentary make it seem very interesting about her life and make it seem really positive. Within the language used in the film, it's seem like she not really try to put in people mind that tattoo is good. I believe she try to give the audience a clue that tattoo is a personal interest. With an open mind everything says about job, life, hard working, remind me that people who have tattoos all over they body is ways better then people with no disability who sit at home and relies on government moneys. In this scene she even says that '' so many people ask me what I want to do with my life when I'm a old women, I believe that tattoos are my living memory and each one is a guide line for my life''. She basically say that it's my memory with no regretting. I like the technique that use in this scene, include the way the music, sound,editing techniques and the way the close up shot are used.  I also found the way the interviwee talk and about her life and how she becamee a tattoolist very intersting (I personaly like tattoo so this is my personal interest). This scene is an observational documentary.

Channel 4 3 minute wonder, Street art



This is the scene about street art, an interview from the street art artist the way they express themselves, the ways people see them, the ways they see themselves. The artist told us trough they view about how they see the street '' the street is the gallery''. The music is really interesting and match the images really well, the way the presenter talk is all most like they been scripted. I like the techniques use in the scene because  it's quick so this show us in a lot of interesting stuff in the small amount of time. The ways the presenter suggest us to street art is the view with an open mind. They are saying that they love what they doing and to be street art and don't really feel bad if people talk bad about their art work. I couldn't state what type of documentary this is but it very close to per-formative type of documentary because there try to show every thing that happen in the scene , there are some interview and some of the people suggest them to the work. the scene is almost like the mixture of documentary. How ever it make the perfect sense and kept the interesting point trough the whole scene and keep on the main point within 03:33 minutes.(Art is also one of my personal interest). This scene is a obervational and interactive documentary.

King of Laughter - 3 Minute Wonder - Channel 4   

 

This is the life about a man that come from other country to live in Britain, In the unhappy part of the Britain. The scene show that he's changing it , he make people smile, laugh, even know there is nothing to laugh about in his life. I believe that he was just fighting the sadness with the laugh. He is such a happy man that does the incredible thing who able to laugh 3 hour straight. He talk about it's not easy to get the visa to come to UK. Their is the very interesting technique in the scene which is when the man walking around laughing and smiling there is a voice over of him talking. Telling his life story about how bad at some part of his life is and he's still laughing. By the look of the scene I believe this is a mixture of Reflexive and observational documentary by looking at the technique used in the scene. Voice over in images and other editing special effect  like revers. Which make the scene look really effective in certain point and make it even more interesting and very classic. Out of three, this is the least I like because I have no personal interest in the story of this scene but how ever the techniques used in incredibly unbelieve able. The way the camera used (andgle etc) and techniques is the only thing that keep me intersted in this scene. This is a observtional and performative documentary.
 

I've watch 5 scene of 3 minutes wonder and chosen  3 to anally. Looking at the technique used, style, music and the lay out of the the texture of each images/shot. This is to help me to get some ideas for my documentary short film. Some of the the techniques use to make the film look even more creative and interesting can be used in my documentary film. As I have not experience of making documentary film so this research will be very useful to me. 

Market research

From my primary research on BBC1 I found that documentary film shows seperatly in the different certain time, I believe this is depend on what the programe is about and the personal interrest for the audience. This program mostly show about 12pm, 9am and lates 11pm. Every day there is about 2 hour and 30 minutes show on the BBC 1. However I also looking at the factual film that are very similar to documentary film for example ''Flog It!''. Every week there is about 18 hour and 15 minutes of documentary and factual program show on the BBC 1.

On the chanel 4 there is also about 18 hour of documetary film show and both chanel 4 and bbc 1 shows very similar hour so I believe this is one of the fact about the documentary and marketing buisness, there is about 11% of documentary film shows on both chanel .
