Candy Crime Dpict Anallyis

 Depict

Candy crime
This movie is about a group of teenagers and a little girl at the bus stop

I chose one of the films from Depict which is ''Candy Crime''.This film lasts about 90 seconds with out description  but 1:42 minutes included the logo of the website which is Depict and description in the end of the film. This film is done in a very classic way as this is in black and white but certain objects which are candy have colours. The scene begins with the camera movement slightly down from the top right to the character which is a group of boys wearing tracksuits sitting on the wall having a conversation and this part of the the scene already gives the audience a clue  because of the stereotyping of the character. Next there is a little girl walking past that group of boys. Then it moves on to the next shot where these boys start to follow her and this is where the crime starts to begin. The directors used high camera angles to make those boys look alot bigger and this feature creates the badness that is about to begin. Next one of those boys asks her for her candy saying''give it to me, give it to me'' this shot makes it look like he is bullying her, but then she asks him for his key ring and he gives it to her. This could made the audience think he is a nice guy. After a little while the girl gets her bigger candy out and he throws the candy that she gave to him on the floor and ask her to gave him the bigger one but then she refuses to do it. Next one of the characters who is a boy pulled his gun out and pointed at her, this is when the audience starts thinking and guessing what these characters are going to do. The end of this scene is very classic and more like a joke when the boy swap his gun for a candy instead of using his gun.

The close-up shot is when the camera frames tight to the object to show more of the information on the objective. This is a very powerful shot it takes up the personal space and emotion of the character. This also can give us a clue about what could happen next by the expression of the characters' action for example, guilty, happy or sad.
There are three types of close up shot which is Medium close up (MCU) , this shot falls somewhere between close up shot and mid shot, usually showing between the head and the shoulder of the character. one of MCU shot in this scene is when a little girl takes the gun from the boy.

Close up(CU) is showing alot of feature and emotion through the character's face. This shot takes up the whole frame just for someone's head. One of these shots is when a girl is looking at those boys while she's sitting in the bus shelter. This works very well as you can clearly see this girl's facial expression and also those boys' bodies coming closer until them they surround her.

Extreme Close Up (ECU or XCU): this shot is used to zoom up to small or a very small object to show the feature and it take all the camera frame for example eyes or a ring. One of ECU shots in this film is when the the camera take  a shot of the boy's key ring. This works well and it's also including an eye line match.

The point of view shot (POV) is also a very important technique in the film. This technique is one of the foundations of films editing technique. This technique is used for when the character is looking at the object and when there is a POV shot by the main character in the film. It's known as the subjective viewpoint and it encourages the audience to think that they are looking through the actor's eyes. One of the point of view shots is when the girl looking at those boy, the camera using high angle to make those boy look big and scary.

The reaction shot is when the moving picture is referring to the actor's feelings and usually this shot is a cut from a long or wide shot to close up shot to show a connection to the action of the character and the emotion. One of the reactions in this scene's shots is when a little girl starts looking up when she had those boys standing in front of her; she looks like is she uncomfortable and scared.

Once we have the audience interested in the film we must keep them interested, this can be done by keeping them believing in the emotion through the action in the film. You can't keep the audience through the boring scenes. Something must happen to make the audience feel the emotion by the reaction of the characters. For example the main character died or fighting scene and makes the audience keep guessing what could happen next. One of the Suspense techniques in this scene is when those boy started to surround the litle girl and asking for her candy and it's look like they are bullying her. Suspense can included a few different techniques which are cross-cut, editing pace, camera angle, manipulation of time, point of view shot and mise-en-scene. These techniques gave the film quality because in each technique it shows or passes on the emotion to the audience.

Cross-cut is when you cut from one shot to another in different locations for example the conversation scene, this also provides the narrative and it also flows well because it makes a sharp turn between 2 actions and it encourages the audience to compare between 2 shots. Also I believe this is the most used technique in the film's editing. In this scene it's used from the beginning to the end, this technique has been used in this scene every time it cut from one shot to another.
Editing pace is when the editing speed increases after the normal speed to make the audience wonder what could happen next. This can also be very effective, it's basically when the boring shots jumps to an exciting shots. This techniques is used alot in the horror film genre to encourage the audiences into fear, for example when the victim of the murder is slowing down and thinking he/she is now safe, but then next the murderer jumps up behind them. There are quite a few uses of this technique in this scene  for example when the boy pulled out his gun and also when he threw the  candy on the floor.

This fim started off with a long shot then a medium close up to the high angle to look at the boy. There is also over an shoulder shot when the boy is pointing out to a little girl's candy, then it zooms up to the candy using an extreme close up. There is also a close up shot when the camera taking  shot's from the little girl's facial expressions to the eye line match. This film ends in a surprise way because when the boy swaps the gun for little girl's candy, it makes it look like he's pointing a gun at her and  robbing her.
